PERSONAL BRANDING

My final Personal branding, I have went with something fresh and new and also i wanted a design that wasn't to busy and i could use it for multi purposes, i.e website design, letter head design and business card design. at first i thought the design was a bit bland because it was all black but as i tested different colours i released that black would defiantly be the best option as other colours didn't work well with the type of design.

GRADUATE SHOW

This is a example of a graduate studio for the final show and i uploaded it for inspiration on what we could possibly do for out own graduate final show.

I like how they have used a mixed of font and numbers because it adds a total different aspect to the course, also i like show it is very busy and almost everything will catch your attention however on the other side it might overpower the work and to make it less noticeable which would be a great loss

PACKAGING

I found this in a blog that i viewed and it just jumped out at me because if the fresh and shiny look it has, this piece of work was for a packaging brand and i personally think it really work because of the style they have gone for. its minimal but still powerful and it stand outs from others on the shelf.

Since 2004, Sonic has seen huge success on every video game platform that has been launched. EASTERN SEALS - THE POINT DESIGN

Eastern seals were looking for a new design that they could use as the identity of there new shop and online business. I was presented with this brief whilst on my placement at The Point Design. It was a great learning turn for me as i got to grips with how the industry works and how to deal with clients.

THE POINT DESIGN

The point design
Week 1
On the day of the placement I turned up at 8:50 am ready to start at 9:00am, it was close enough to my house so it didn’t take me too long to get there. I was pleasantly introduced to Jane Sadler (manager) Malcolm Logan (senior Designer) and Graham boyd (Designer). I settled in quite easily as they were easy going and laid backed, and any questions I had would be answered with full confidences and I felt that everything I needed to know I shortly knew after a few questions.
Our first task was to create a ladies fashion logo, I found this task enjoyable because I love dealing with fashion and creating brands that people would like to wear. We started out researching current brands in the market already, this was a great help for me as it kept me up to date with the every changing design world. My first intention s was to create a fresh and clean expensive brand logo but I shortly realised that the brand we were creating was for a lower market, something not to expensive and something that would appeal to the everyday woman. The task was based over two days however this wasn’t to my advantage as I finished quite early and didn’t have much to do the following two days, only thing I could do was expand my ideas and create new ones.  At the end of the two days we had an informal meeting around a table bouncing out ideas off everyone to see if we could expand them some more.
My next task was to create a logo for mike Greatbatch, his business was heritage management and I automatically thought of old rustic buildings that have class and style. The design had to include his full name and his business name as well. I found this easy because I like dealing with type, this was a lot different compared to the previous task as I had to research older designs and logos of a different criteria, once again after two days we had an informal meeting and my ideas got brought forward to be presented in front of the client.

Week 2
By week 2 I got to know the team a lot better and started to ask questions about the programs they use and what type of clients they deal with. I also started to understand how the industry worked, how much time they had on projects, how to deal with clients and how to work in a pressured environment. I also came to grips with how the clients treats the designer, If you have designed something and you are happy and feel as if it’s the best work you have done they can shoot you down with out thought because if they don’t like it then it wont get to print, this is something I have learnt to deal with and I have to think with a design head rather than a personal.
My next task was to create a leaflet for Knight Frank, a to let company in Newcastle, I personally found this task fun and I could quite easily get on with it however I also had to cerate the document in Quark Express, this was a completely new program for me and before the point design I had never heard of it in my life. They were looking for a clean and fresh design that wasn’t busy but still had a strong and powerful feel about it. I started out in illustrator that was for me a very easy and enjoyable source to use, I then moved on to quark and at first it looked confusing but as I got to grips with it I found it easier than illustrator and easier to in design that was the similar program to Quark.
My  Next task was to Re design a logo for eastern seals, once again this was a easy task for me and I enjoyed its full potential. I liked how I could create my own interpretation but then I had to just change little things to the original like colour and font size etc. Through out the weeks I was given the majority of cut-out tasks that they needed done quickly, The cut-outs that they needed were used in the magazine layout of ‘The Factory Shop’ this meant that it was an important job and I could later on see some of my work on the website and print outs.

Week 3
I was in my final week of the placement and by now I was comfortable to have a general laugh and discussion about work. My knowledge in Quark by this time was greatly improved and I was confident to use it whenever I feel now. We were also given a final task to produce a front cover for Las Vegas Hologram pack 2011. The design had to be photograph based and I turn my luck to stock photos, they had a wide range of different styles from Vegas but we were then told that a casino front cover would be best because it attracts more attention and because people relate Las Vegas as a gambling city where people can go to relax.  I first went for a roulette front cover because it will quickly be recognized. I took the image of the roulette table and developed it in illustrator, I didn’t really enjoy this project because the work base wasn’t very interesting and I felt I could of done better if it didn’t have a gambling theme but this is something I had to adapt because it is what the client wanted.
After 3 weeks of the point I quickly expanded my knowledge in graphics by a great deal, I got to grips with new programs that I had never heard of, I learnt what industry was all about and up most I learnt how to work in a really industry where everything is fast paced, I felt I dealt quite well with the aspects of industry and would defiantly look for another placement in the mean time.

Over all I really enjoyed my placement at the point and gathered a lot of information that was needed so I could enter the real world of graphics with a deep understanding.

4Mations

The Brief

To produce a logo and associated online materials for a new Channel 4 TV station called
4mations which specialises in animation based productions.

In January 2008, Channel 4 joined with Aardman Animation and Lupus Films to create and sponsor 4Mations a user generated content animation portal where animators could upload their work. Channel 4 commissioned this project with backing from the sponsors, over 2 years the concept and ethos for the site was developed and the beta site was launched in August 2008, on 1st June 2009 the site was re-launched in the guise of an animation blog focusing primarily on user generated content including director interviews, user submitted clips and news and reviews from the animation world. This site is still active but the design of it and its branding is not to be carried on with your project.

Initially in the 1990’s 4Mations was a late night showcase of world wide animations from both a historical and contemporary context which were featured on Channel 4. Now times have changed and accessibility has become a focus in the digital age and the idea of giving up and coming animators the chance of recognition, 4mations online launched. The rise in popularity of independent animation has started the debate of whether 4Mations should return to television as its own channel following the success of the range of broadcasts channel 4’s umbrella company offers, including E4, More 4, 4music, 4OD and Film 4. Speculation relating to the future of 4mations is indicating a possible launch as a digital television channel in 2012.

WAYNE PATE

This is Wayne Pate's most recent work, i like how he has a rough almost child like drawing style. It looks very professional and stands out from he crowd just because of the style it has been drawing in. A lot of his recent work has this similar style and i really like it because it also sets him apart from the rest of the designers which is what every designer wants with the work they do.

FEDERICO CABRERA

Federico Cabrera is a fashion photographer and he suck the world with his new style of photography creating a shattered perspective design. although i really like this style and how he has been able to incorporate it in to something that he loves doing i personally think that it takes your attention away from the clothes which for the fashion design would be a bit of a let down because he wants his work easily viewed however the style of the photo makes you want to look at the work because its never been done before and having something new and fresh will make everyone turn their heads.

WAYNE PATE

These are shape designs by a design called Wayne Pate, he mainly deals with shapes and how he can manipulate them in to what type of design he wants. I find his work inspirational because if he sets out to do something he does it and it works really well, i also like how the design is made of no more than 2-3 colours, this adds a a different effect that attracts your attention because the colour base is so strong.

BUILDING MAPPING

These videos are created by a company called Macula and urbanscreen. they deal with a lot of big business and recently Macula have created a ad in japan for BMW. i first stumbled across the work when i was on youtube and then from there i have followed what they do and still wonder how they do it. this type of design is on a complete different level and to have a hand on working on something this big would be great and i do wish in the near future that i could try this out on a smaller scale. there is a whole section on youtube of other companies designs but two companies i have chose struck my eye the most with the stunning design and originality.

INSIDE OUT

"In the design of the Pompidou Centre (Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano and Gianfranco Franchini, 1977) and the Lloyds Building (Richard Rogers, 1984) the buildings were effectively turned ‘inside out’ by placing the services on the outside. One of the architects’ aims in doing this was to maximise internal space, prioritising functional movement and flow, but it also had the effect of revealing the infrastructure to the occupants and passers-by in a way that might be considered analagous to the ‘seamful games‘ of Mathew Chalmers et al. at the University of Glasgow.

Colour-coding used for the ducts on the Pompidou Centre where blue was for air, green for fluids, yellow for electricity cables and red for movement, flow and safety made the services legible both to maintenance engineers and the general public. Accessibility of services when freed from the interior space was a further consideration in the design, with the architects acknowledging the varying rates of obsolescence of different services:
“Whereas the frame of the building has a long life expectancy, the servant areas, filled with mechanical equipment have a relatively short life, especially in this energy-critical period. The servant equipment, mechanical services, lifts, toilets, kitchens, fire stairs, and lobbies, sit loosely in the tower framework, easily accessible for maintenance, and replaceable in the case of obsolescence.”
This is a topic of perhaps even greater importance for technology with its current rate of development and lack of reliability. Which brings us tidily back round to another point in Bell and Dourish’s paper; that perhaps the goal of seamlessness is inhibiting the implementation of technologies in our everyday environment. Certainly this would seem to be the case for responsive/interactive architecture. While there are many great examples of installations, demos and interventions in the urban environment there are relatively few examples of permanent, built responsive or interactive buildings. And I wonder if a large part of this is to do with the implicit risk of embedding technological infrastructure into a building without providing for easy access to it if, and when, it fails."

I love how the building is turned inside out so that people can see what is would look like with out all the fancy over coating, i personally think the idea was very inventive because when you first see the building you are automatically struck in the face and cant stop looking at it, this is also a great sell point for the business or art exertion that is coated in this wire design.

FOUND

FFFFOUND! is a web service that not only allows the users to post and share their favorite images found on the web, but also dynamically recommends each user's tastes and interests for an inspirational image-bookmarking experience

i use this website alot becuase it helps me keep to date and find new ideas which i originally wouldn't of thought about. It is quite simple to use and a lot of peoples art work has been uploaded which is good because you can find the latest trends and also you might be able to find a new up and coming artist that could be very successful.
